What is a Pediatric Wheel Chair?
The
pediatric wheel chair...what is it?
Basically,
it's a wheelchair for
a child or adolescent who needs the mobility they're
entitled to.
Your
medical doctor or physical therapist will ask,
and recommend to you the appropriate questions
on what type of pediatric wheel chair your child
will require and the one with the most benefit
for them.
Depending
on where and how far the child will have to travel,
they may require an electric or motorized wheelchair.
Maybe they won't require that much and a manual
wheel chair will suffice.
Maybe
the child is active...and will need a sports type
of wheel chair. But, remember. Picking out a pediatric
wheel chair should be as much a part of the child's
personality as it is their physical requirements.
So,
it would probably be a good idea to let the child
have a say in the type of pediatric wheel chair...
and maybe even the color you purchase.
There
are different categories of pediatric wheelchairs.
The basic groups are:
-
For
children aged 6 and under.
-
A
"growing type" of pediatric wheel
chair...designed for children as they grow...with
options for replacing parts and/or components
which can be switched as the child grows in
physical size.
-
Then,
there are the standard types of basic pediatric
wheel chairs. The lighweight style, the standard
style (of course...heavier than the lighweight
style),and the speciality wheelchairs along
with the electric or powered wheel chairs.
